Nikon DC 135mm test

  • My copy has AF Front focus, so I adjusted it to AF fine tune +20.
  • AF fine tune requires consistent light source. Daylight or lightbulb gives different focus distance. So I used SB600 as the light source to make my DC suitable for daylight use.
  • F/2.8 and DC=0 is sharp but is not as tack sharp as 70-200VR at 135mm F/2.8.
  • Bokeh of F/2.8 and DC=0 is slightly better than 70-200VR at 135mm F/2.8.
  • Matching F stop and DC has better bokeh than DC=0. For example, Bokeh of F/2 and DC=2 is better than F/2 and DC=0.
  • AF is not accurate if F stop does not match to DC. Under AF, image has soft focus effect in the AF focus area. If using manual focus, image has tack sharp focus at the middle of DOF.
  • It's almost impossible to hand-held and manual focus at F/2.0 within distance 2 meters.
  • Under manual focus, the image in the middle of DOF remains same and bokeh varies:

1. Best: DC > F stop

2. Better: DC = F stop

3. Good: DC = 0

Sample image: F/2.0 DC=4R
